2013  Government-in-Action Youth Tour

Houston County Electric Cooperative, Inc., in conjunction with Texas Electric Cooperative (TEC) and National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) will sponsor two deserving young adults in an all-expense paid trip to our nation’s capital – Washington DC.  High school students enrolled as sophomores, juniors or seniors whose parents or guardians are members of Houston County Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply.

The deadline for submitting 2013 Youth Tour applications has passed.
Youth Tour 2013 participants have been notified and should see the HCEC Youth Tour Participants page for more information!

The 2013 tour will be the 48th Annual Government-in-Action Youth Tour.  Two lucky teens will win an all-expense paid trip to our nation’s capital and experience a guided trip of a lifetime that will take place June 13-21, 2013.  The trip will include air fare, transportation while in Washington, hotel rooms, food costs as well as tours of many exciting, inspirational and educational sites.  Cooperative staff will transport students to and from Irving, Texas, where they will be in the care of experienced chaperones.

The winners will travel with other students from Texas and join some 1500 other students from across the nation.  This tremendous opportunity will include tours of Mount Vernon, The Smithsonian Museums, boat cruise of the Potomac River, and other historical places and memorials.  More importantly, students will have the opportunity to see our nation’s government up close and gain real perspective on what happens in Washington.

If you are a sophomore, junior or senior in high school this year, at least 16 years of age, and your parent or guardian maintains permanent residence on Houston County Electric Cooperative’s electric lines you may apply.  Applications will be available from your local high school counselor, US History teacher, or government teacher.
